Prof. Dr. Lyubima Despotova-Toleva, PhD is university professor and the chairman of the Bulgarian Long-term and Palliative Care Society. She holds diplomas for acquired specialties in pediatrics, general medicine, health management, certificate of medical law, she has also completed a specialization in pediatric cardiology. She has specialized, conducted research and was a guest lecturer at leading universities in a number of European countries, England, USA, Japan, Iceland, etc. Prof. Lyubima Despotova-Toleva is the author of over 30 monographs, textbooks and manuals, over 130 scientific publications and about hundred quotes in Bulgarian and foreign specialized publications. She has been a scientific supervisor of successfully defended PhD students and others at a different stage of their doctoral studies. She teaches general medicine to medical students and specialist doctors, conducts postgraduate training courses aimed at a wide range of specialists, incl. in the field of pain management and palliative care. She speaks German, English, Russian, uses French. Prof. dr. Lyubima Despotova-Toleva is a permanent member of the World Organization of General Practitioners WONCA, a Board Member of EMA and EGPRN, a permanent member of the International Association of Hospice and Palliative Care /IAHPC/, World Hospice and Palliative Care Alliance /WHPCA/, National Association of General Practitioners in Bulgaria /NAGPB/, Bulgarian Medical Association and others. She is an organizer of international and national scientific congresses, conferences, seminars, etc. and editor-in-chief of the Folia Palliatrica journal.

Mohamed Eddouks is Professor at Moulay Ismail University, Faculty of Sciences and Techniques Errachidia, Morocco. He is a researcher in Physiology and Pharmacology with a Master Degree in Metabolic and Molecular Endocrinology from University of Paris vi, a specialized certificate in Endocrine Pharmacology from University of Paris vii and PhD degrees in Physiology and Pharmacology from University of Liege, Belgium and Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University, Fez, Morocco. After his post-doctoral fellowship at Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine of Montreal, Canada, he is working for the last 16 years on medicinal plants. His work on antidiabetic and antihypertensive plants is well recognized globally. His research focuses on ethnobiological as well as pharmacological issues in the use of Moroccan medicinal plants for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, obesity and hypertension. His contribution to this field includes four international books and more than 80 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters of international repute. He is Guest Editor of American Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Lead Guest Editor of an annual special issue published by Evidence-Based and Complementary Alternative Medicine, Regional Editor of the Following journals: American Journal of Food Technology, Journal of Applied Sciences, Trends in Applied Sciences Research and Singapore Journal of Scientific research, Member of Editorial Board of several international journals. He has been honored with the first Prize of Scientific Research in 2008 by the Moroccan Association of Research and Development and the first Prize of the Federation of Arab Scientific Councils in 2016. Dr. Yong-Xiao Wang has been a Full Professor in Albany Medical College (USA) since 2006. Dr. Wang has had extensive research experience in basic, translational and drug research concerning pulmonary hypertension, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, and cardiac arrhythmia for over 30 years. As the Principal Investigator, he has/had numerous NIH R01 research awards, AHA Established Investigator Award, and various other grants, for which he often holds/held 2 – 3 NIH R01 grants with other awards each year. As the corresponding author, first author and key contributor, he has had numerous publications in highly peer-reviewed journals including Antioxid Redox Signal (impact factor: 8.209), Proc Natl Acad Sci USA (9.432), Nature (34.480), Circ Res (9.214), etc. Dr. Wang has been the editor of academic books in the field including one entitled by “Redox Signaling in Health and Disease Pulmonary Vasculature” that has been confirmed for publication by Springer (New York). Dr. Wang has also served as the editorial board member and/or section editor for the Clinical and Translational Medicine, Pulmonary Circulation and several other journals.

Dr.Ohta graduated from the Univ of Tokyo School of Medicine in 1975, and had been Prof of Medicine at Teikyo Univ Schl of Med for 15 years until March in 2012. He has been President at National Hospital Organization Tokyo National Hospital since April in 2012. His speciality is pulmonary medicine and allergology as well as internal medicine. He still teachs at Teikyo Univ as a visiting professor. He has been interested in asthma, interstitial lung diseases and COPD. He has studied in US from 1980 to 1983 on IgE regulation and from 1988 and 1989 on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, both at the National Jewish Health in Denver. He has been involved in producing Japanese Guidelines for asthma as a chairman of the committee belonging to Japanese Society of Allergology since 2004. He had been a member of the Board of Directors and the Science Committee for GINA (Global Initiative for Asthma) for 10 years until 2012. He is a member of AAAAI (American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology) and ACCP (American College of Chest Physicians) as Fellow (FAAAAI and FCCP, respectively). He is one of Members at Large for INTERASMA and a member of the Executive Committee for ARIA (Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma).

Hiroaki Kume obtained his MD from Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University in 1982. Nobuaki Miyahara graduated from Hiroshima University School of Medicine in 1988. He has completed his PhD in Department of Medicine II, Okayama University School of Medicine in 1994. He had done research on allergic airway inflammation at the National Jewish Health in Denver, CO, USA (Dr. Erwin Gelfand’s Lab) from 2001 to 2008. Currently, he works at Department of Medical Technology, Okayama University Graduate School of Health Sciences, and Department of Allergy and Respiratory Medicine, Okayama University Hospital.

Amnon Ariel is the immediate past president of the Israel Society of Pulmonology, and current lead of Clalit Heathcare Services COPD program. Prof. Ping Yang has completed her MD from Beijing Medical College in China and PhD at Johns Hopkins University in USA. She has been leading a comprehesive lung cancer research program at Mayo Clinic since 1997, emphasizing patient-centered outcome research with COPD as one of the key interaested areas. She has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and has been serving as an editorial board member of Jounal of Clinical Oncology and Associate Editir of Journal of Thoracic Oncology.

Dr. Patrick Vanscheeuwijck is Director pre-clinical toxicology at Philip Morris International, Reduced Risk Products, and Switzerland, responsible for the in vitro and in vivo assessment of Reduced Risk Products (RRPs). The focus of his career at PMI has been on the development of approaches for the assessment of hazard associated with cigarette smoke and aerosols from RRPs, inhalation toxicology and animal models of disease; with more than 30 peer-reviewed publications.
